Far from manipulating its participants and situations to increasingly ridiculous extremes, the Ellen De Generes-produced show simply pairs two strangers up, films every minute of their squirm-inducing/sparks-flying dinner table conversation at MK, a cozy Chicago restaurant, and then asks them whether they want their first date to lead to a second. The brainchild of Twenty Twenty Productions (the team behind life-fixing reality show Brat Camp and life-affirming BAFTA winner The Choir), the original version first hit British screens in 2013.A word-of-mouth success, the show gradually became one of the Channel 4 network’s flagship hits; 69 episodes, including several celebrity specials, have aired since. They dated for three years before splitting in 2004 – reportedly because Ellen met Portia De Rossi, who she has since married.Jodie spoke publicly for the first time about being gay at last year's Golden Globes ceremony.
No details have been revealed about the ceremony, though according to reports the pair said their vows over the weekend.
However, Ellen did recently admit that she would leave Portia if her wife made what many would consider an innocuous request involving her asked Ellen De Generes whether Portia de Rossi has ever begged her to do a Dory impression at home.
Ellen answered in the negative, and she revealed that it would make her more than a bit uncomfortable if her wife was that big of a fan of her forgetful fish character. “That would be the end of our relationship.” Ellen was obviously joking, but she made sure to make it crystal clear that Portia de Rossi has no interest in watching her act like the star of a TV show for young children; her wife is an adult woman who is not amused by animal voices and silly dancing. “That would be bad if she said dance and talk whale at the same time.” So now everyone knows that one of Ellen De Generes’ relationship deal breakers is asking her to act like sea creatures that can talk and dance, but what about Portia de Rossi?
Interestingly, talking about dating apps on daytime talk shows is likely a more effective way for Jackson to announce that his people are currently taking calls to set up dates with interested parties.
Ellen De Generes and Portia de Rossi have been dogged by divorce rumors for years, but they’re still very much together.
